Brief Bio
Oboist Rebecca Nelsen is an avid orchestral musician who strives to use her singing tone and heart-felt musicality to inspire audiences and deeply touch their emotions. Her musical adventures took her to the Vienna Summer Music Festival in 2023, where she was featured as Principal Oboist of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Becca is always eager to expand her oboe skills and spent the summer of 2024 exploring modern music and extended techniques at the Mostly Modern Festival with Keve Wilson. An active freelancer in NYC, Becca has performed both oboe and the English horn with the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra and LUX Symphony Orchestra and is a substitute musician with the Centre Symphony Orchestra, the Riverside Orchestra, and the Greenwich Village Orchestra.
A passionate chamber musician, her horn, oboe, and piano trio was named a winner of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Competition at the Manhattan School of Music. Becca’s vast chamber experience ranges from her Baroque trio, soprano, oboe and harpsichord, all the way to the American Modern Ensemble, specializing in music of living composers. Becca is also an accomplished pianist. As a winner of the Concert Festival International Competition, she performed Debussy and Chopin piano works at Carnegie Hall. In her free time, she enjoys playing oboe and guitar duets with her twin brother Ryan. You can also find Becca baking and exploring new gluten-free recipes.
